I say meh. What about yous?
I guess a bit of a tired subject in online-music-forum-land but just intrigued to see what SWU peeps thoughts are specifically... It's something I was hoping would die off but I see more and more of it lately (that is: a tendency for strict adherence to particular genres, whether by a particular night or a particular DJ - either as their general approach to music or within a given DJ set. That and the continuing insistency to create ever more sub-sub-sub genres a-la Skweee for instance) and I'm interested in what other people think of it.
Maybe this is also related to the thing in the Model 500 interview in another thread about neglecting older material in the assumption that it's 'old school' and has had its day... I've personally found that tracking backwards as well as forwards has opened up whole new areas of music that I might not otherwise have been aware of; genre-wise as well as time-wise.
Kinda triggered off by this article with Kode9 on FACT:

For Kode9,” he describes, “it’s nice to stir elements of UK house, hip-hop, grime, dubstep, techno and garage into the pot, without too many pre-conceptions about what you should or shouldn’t do. As micro-scenes get older, you have all these unwritten rules and habits that define the boundaries of a scene. They kind of plague you, and block you as a producer. They become toxic. Any tactic that helps you forget these when you need to is handy
